Pi is SO in the Bible
And I'll prove it!
All ye unbelievers of little faith, turn your Bible's to 2 Chronicles 4:2-3, where it reads:
He made the Sea of cast metal, circular in shape, measuring ten cubits from rim to rim and five cubits high. It took a line of thirty cubits to measure around it. Below the rim, figures of bulls encircled it--ten to a cubit... (NIV)
So, we have:
Alright, so the formula for the circumference of a circle is C = 2pr, where p = some unknown constant (for now... but we know it's Pi). Or, since we know 2r = d, we can also write it as C = pd. So! Lets substitute in our known values!
HOLY COW!! (refer to picture on previous post), p = 3 !! I bet if they had standard calculators back then, they'd get something more like 3.14159265. And I'm sure if those folks had a PC, they'd be able to generate something around
Alas, all they had were "cubits," and could only be accurate to ones, hence p = 3, or shall we say, Pi = 3. Sure, God's a pretty precise kinda God, but I'm sure He doesn't mind rounding every now and then either.
Therefore, Pi is in the Bible. Eat that!

So, we have:
- something made in a circular shape
- measure from rim to rim or Diameter, d = 10 cubits --> recall that d = 2r, r = radius
- measure all around or Circumference, C = 30 cubits
Alright, so the formula for the circumference of a circle is C = 2pr, where p = some unknown constant (for now... but we know it's Pi). Or, since we know 2r = d, we can also write it as C = pd. So! Lets substitute in our known values!
C = 2pr
C = pd
(30) = p(10)
p = 3
C = pd
(30) = p(10)
p = 3

Nice proof man!
271 all the way!
HAHAHAHA!!
That's hilarious! I've got to take a closer look at that!
That's totally awesome...
The Bible isn't a physics textbook...but it IS scientifically sound. For example, baby male Jews are to be circumsized on the 8th day according to the Law...it JUST so happens that the 8th day after a baby is born is when there is the most blood clotting agents in their blood.
Im gonna call bullcrap on your proof. We have no way of know how accurate "cubits" were back then; but from the information given, you managed to prove pi=3. Gotta say, i wasnt too impressed. Sure, they knew how to measure things good, but the notion of having a written discovery of pi is simply unbeleivable, in the bible.
hahaha, nice try, but that was the whole point of the proof! It doesn't matter what measurement they used, because pi was a result of a ratio/comparison.
You lost my vote! Jill for president!
That hurts. it really does.
I simply think your claim that pi = 3 is unjustified, and reading a bit too much between the lines. Pi is not just some ratio that we can throw around in this day and age. Its a sacred thing! Maybe you have to be in engineering to understand that.
i'm an engineer and i say we use approximations ALL THE TIME! (well a lot of the time) ie. Gravity we use 10 m/s^2 rather than 9.81 m/s^2 unless we work for NASA. Henceforth, we nowadays use PI as 3.14 instead of 3.1415926.... =) So we only use 2 more decimal places than 5000 yrs ago. Not much diff :-)
Other engineering stuff in the bible includes: Moses' ark and the failed Tower of Babel supposedly in Iraq.
Go engineers! (er.. cough.. and math guys.. cough hack cough)
Do you mean NOAH's Ark for the Great Flood?
Moses was involved in the Ark of the Covenant...aka the Holy Grail?
oh whoops.. haha.. Noah's ark =)
